Ack. WTF???? What the hell is that? I started off into the new day this morning feeling healthy and really good, started to sneeze in the afternoon and have my head stuffed up by now. Must be a really fast working virus. I hope it leaves as fast as it came! *achoo*

11:43 am - Tarot Card Meme
|
Nicked by... anyone else, last seen at filkerdave's.

You are The Empress
Beauty, happiness, pleasure, success, luxury, dissipation.
The Empress is associated with Venus, the feminine planet, so it represents, beauty, charm, pleasure, luxury, and delight. You may be good at home decorating, art or anything to do with making things beautiful.
The Empress is a creator, be it creation of life, of romance, of art or business. While the Magician is the primal spark, the idea made real, and the High Priestess is the one who gives the idea a form, the Empress is the womb where it gestates and grows till it is ready to be born. This is why her symbol is Venus, goddess of beautiful things as well as love. Even so, the Empress is more Demeter, goddess of abundance, then sensual Venus. She is the giver of Earthly gifts, yet at the same time, she can, in anger withhold, as Demeter did when her daughter, Persephone, was kidnapped. In fury and grief, she kept the Earth barren till her child was returned to her.

12:49 pm - Hmph...

This again. I'm getting so bored at work I started to gnaw fingernails. That only means that the stressy time is about to threaten again. I so HATE it, I am so fed up with either complete boredom or so much work that I am literally drowning in it. Yeah, and it's *this* time, too. Urgh. Plus, having to arrange a meeting with four to six people whose schedules are even fuller than mine is no fun. BLRGH.
Good thing: Day-off tomorrow. On Saturday, hubby is going to an aquarium fair in Wilhelmshaven and will be not back until the late afternoon, so maybe I can do some songwriting or work on my story again.

9:50 am - Ballast Water and Baby Fish
|
Yesterday we ran the first true, real ballast water analyse. We drowned in work, literally. I don't know how we shall analyse samples in a time window of 24 hours, when the samples arrive at noon in our lab and are then already about ten hours old. Two workers need about 8 hours to do 2/3 of all analyses. Huh. What to do with the last third without one of us being cloned? Meh. No fun, really not. So folks, please have mercy on me when I am quiet and not as talkative as I use to be here on LJ - I simply have no time. And when I'm finally home, I'm too tired and headachy for phone calls. Sorrysorry! *hugs to all of you*
Some nicer announcements: we have baby fish again, two of our mouth-breeding mommys-to-be set their fry free yesterday night. It's interesting to see how even mouth breeders have different strategies. My hubby's Malawi cichlids have many (up to 30) very small eggs from which relatively small young hatch. They keep them in their mouth until they are fully developed and then set them free - about 30 very small baby fish. My Lake Tanganyika mouth breeding cichlid (a Cyprichromis) had less eggs, they were bigger and so are the young - abut 12 mm. Big babies compared to the tiny, 4-5 mm Malawi babies! :)

| Your Dominant Intelligence is Musical Intelligence | Every part of your life has a beat, and you're often tapping your fingers or toes. You enjoy sounds of all types, but you also find sound can distract you at the wrong time. You are probably a gifted musician of some sort - even if you haven't realized it. Also a music lover, you tend to appreciate artists of all kinds.
You would make a great musician, disc jockey, singer, or composer. |

3:51 pm - Blrgh.
|
I finally got the updated test plan for the ballast water tests we will run from next week on. Surprisingly, again there were more samples listed for us than we had agreed about. Wah. I spent the whole morning exchanging email with one of my Ballast Water Dutchmen, and finally we got things sorted out, everything is not that bad as I thought at the first sight. But I will need a chat with the Real Great Big ballastwater Boss before the analyses start again. Problem - he is on an industrial fair in the US until Saturday. Blrgh. I see intersting times coming!

1:33 pm - Choir concert
|
Today's not enough time for writing, I fear - I'm off to prepare for our choir concert right now. We are doing the "Dettinger Te Deum" by Handel and the "Nelson Mass" by Haydn. General rehearsal yesterday was just bad enough to grant us a good concert today!
And, btw: *hugs* and "GET WELL SOON" wishes to yarisuma, who went to hospital yesterday. No, it's nothing serious, so don't worry!

6:49 pm - Writing - my personal NoWriMo
|
I've decided not to sign up for NaNoWriMo. Why? Because I have the time and am in the mood to write NOW and not in November, and I don't want my plot bunnies lying around lazily until November. So I will try my own NaNoWriMo and try to write under the same conditions as a nanowrimo-writer would do - from this day on, I will try to write 50.000 words until the 6th of November. So it's PersNoWriMo for me - personal novel writing month. Today's word count:1892 :)
I carry around that plot idea for about a year, and it's the first time I have a complete story in my mind - feels good and I don't want to loose that feeling. And here's one of the two main characters: Najaro, the healer. Piccie by me, and yes, he's MINE.
